Part of the Iridomyrmex genus, the most commonly found ant in Australia, pavement ants are spread across the entire country. If you see a small black ant around the house, chances are, it’s this genus. These are considered one of the best ant species for beginner ant keepers, as they are small, require minimal care, and the queens are very easy to raise. Their numbers grow quickly, making them ideal for someone who wants a colony quickly and simply. This species is unknown, and is similar to I. Bicknelli, except it is light brown and slightly larger.
