Care Level: Challenging
Founding Type: Claustral
Setup: At the founding stage, they should be placed in a very large test tube, or a small container with ventilation and regularly-watered cotton. They should be moved into a small nest after the first or second generation of workers.
Diet: Queens do not require feeding until workers arrive. When workers arrive, feed sugars and protein regularly.
Queen size: 20-25mm
Worker size: 8-10mm
These ants require both a very unique founding setup and general nesting system, and because of this, they are rated expert care. To ensure the well-being of these ladies, it is recommended to house them in a natural formicarium or terrarium that includes a live plant with broad leaves. As arboreal creatures, weaver ants will thrive with access to a live plant, and high humidity is necessary for their optimal growth. Additionally, because they can bite, precautions such as anti-climb barriers should be taken when housing them.
